Direction

When I was a kid, I had absolutely no sense of direction. I couldn’t tell you whether I was facing north or south, east or west. I had no idea. I could guess, but I was always wrong. I assumed I’d remain directionless for the rest of my life.

One day, something just clicked and – poof! – I suddenly had a sense of direction. It sounds crazy but it’s totally true: one day I couldn’t tell north from south, and the next day I just knew with 100% accuracy which direction I was facing at any given time. I can’t explain it; I just know it happened.

The same thing has often been true for me when I’ve needed life direction. So many times, I’ve found myself at a loss about which way I should go. Should I take a certain job? Go back to school? Move somewhere new? Stay right where I am? I’ve felt utterly lost and aimless, with no sense of direction whatsoever.

And then, all of a sudden, something changes. Where I was once completely without direction, suddenly I just know what to do. The next step tiptoes into my mind quietly and it’s like it was always there, even though I clearly remember being lost just a few days before. I feel peace. I feel settled. One choice stands out as the obvious choice for me, making every other option seem irrelevant or even silly. Out of nowhere, I just know what to do.

I’m a prophetic “knower.” Maybe you are too! It took me years to figure out that not everybody is like this; I just assumed we all had random knowings about, people, things, and situations. I had no idea it was a gift from God, just that it usually proved to be scarily accurate. I honestly thought it was 1) nothing special, and 2) all me. 😂

I’ve talked before about Havilah Cunnington’s Prophetic Personalities course and how helpful it is to discover how God speaks uniquely to you. This class was a key resource for me in discovering how and just how often God actually spoke to me. He was speaking all the time; I just didn’t always recognize it as him!

I believe that God is always speaking and he WANTS us to discover his will for our lives. He WANTS us to discover the paths he has for us, the next right steps, the strategies from heaven he has that we could never come up with on our own.

I’ve been directionless plenty of times in my life (too many, the way it’s felt), and I know how frustrating it can be. But I find that God usually comes through right on time with exactly the solution I need. I just need to listen and obey.

If you’re lacking direction in your life right now, ask God to show you where he wants you to go next. I’m praying that he will do just that and come through for you in a big way!

He has recently done that for me in a way I didn’t expect, and I’m excited to share more about a big change in my life in the weeks to come! Believe me when I say I didn’t see this one coming. Stay tuned! 😉
