Last week I told you about the best books I’ve read in 2019, and this week it’s time for my favorite songs of the year! These are 19 of the songs I listened to most this year.

(See 2018’s list here.)

19. “Rollercoaster” by Jonas Brothers. Yep, I’ll admit it. I’m a “sucker” for a good boy band song, and I was shamelessly listening to the new JoBros album along with the rest of the world this year. 😊 This song was my fave of theirs.

18. “All The Things” by Caitie Hurst. I first heard of Caitie Hurst last year and loved her song “How Could I Be Silent.” “All The Things” is this year’s version! I often struggle with fear and feelings of not-good-enough-ness. This song reminds me to take the leap of faith when God asks me to do so and trust him to do the rest, which he will.

17. “High Hopes” by Panic! at the Disco. This song’s been prophesying to me and it’s not even CCM! Haha. Or maybe I’m the one prophesying these words every time I belt them out to the radio in my car. 😊 These lyrics serve as a good reminder to not give up on your dreams and to keep those hopes up.

16. “Burn the Ships” by for KING & COUNTRY. I’ve had to let go of some things this year that I didn’t want to let go of. (I’m kind of a control freak – I don’t like letting go. Of anything.) This song encouraged me in that. Sometimes you have to let go of the good to get the best.

15. “Wasteland” by NEEDTOBREATHE. This song is a few years old now, but I was really feeling it and this whole album this year. It immediately makes me think of Isaiah 43:19. Anyone else been in a wilderness season this year? 🙋🏼 Wilderness seasons are hard. But as the song says, even in the wasteland, “there is a crack in the door filled with light,” and “if God is on my side, who can be against me?”

14. “Might Sound Wild” by Hillsong United. I love this entire album. Hillsong United and all its relatives (Worship, Young and Free, etc.) are usually hit or miss for me – I either love an album or it’s not my style at all. This album is one I couldn’t get enough of! This song is the perfect praising-before-the-breakthrough/worshipping-through-the-wilderness anthem and I love how upbeat it is.

13. “Echoes (Till We See The Other Side)” by Hillsong United. See above. 😊 I basically feel the same way about this song that I do about “Might Sound Wild.”

12. “Haven’t Seen It Yet” by Danny Gokey. Only about the most hopeful song on the radio this year! “You’re closer than you think you are, only moments from the break of dawn. All his promises are just up ahead; maybe you just haven’t seen it yet!” I am speaking that over everyone reading this who can relate in any way.

11. “How Wonderful” by UPPERROOM. I’m starting to sound like a broken record (No pun intended!), but I like this whole album (Moments II) and it was one of my top-played albums this year. I also really love their version of “Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble.”

10. “Like It’s Christmas” by Jonas Brothers. Another JoBros tune, and how can you go wrong with an upbeat Christmas jingle? I haven’t heard them sing a Christmas song since I went to the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade back in college, and it’s been awhile…check out all those non-smartphones in the audience! 😂

9. “Greatness Of Our God” by Newsboys. This is a very hopeful song (Can you tell I like hopeful songs? 😊) and it reminds me of “He Reigns.” I like that it includes both of their lead singers, past and present.

8. “Victory Is Yours” by Bethel Music & Bethany Wohrle. I listened to this whole album a whole lot this year (That’s an understatement), so a more accurate top 19 list would probably include every single song on this album and not much else. But that kind of makes for a boring list, so this and song #1 are the only ones I’m including, because I listened to them the most.

7. “How Wonderful” by Leeland. I rediscovered this older song this year after hearing the UPPERROOM version (#11 above), and I’m pretty sure I played it about 1,000 times. While everyone else is listening to Leeland’s version of “Way Maker,” I’m back in 2006 listening to this. 😎

6. “Won’t Stop Now” by Elevation Worship. My only repeat from last year. It was my number one listened-to song in 2018 and I continued to keep it on rotation a lot this year. So good.

5. “See a Victory” by Elevation Worship. Another winner from Elevation! I don’t think I’m the only one who listened to this over and over this year. 😊 I even got the three-year-old I nanny for to start singing this, and yes, it’s about as cute as it sounds!

4. “Holy Water” by We The Kingdom. LOVE this new band and their music – I can’t wait to hear more! This song spoke to me from the first time I heard it; it is truly anointed. I often struggle with forgiving myself and giving myself grace, and “Holy Water” is a good reminder of the forgiveness and grace that God offers lavishly.

3. “Waymaker (feat. Vanessa Campagna & Madelyn Berry)” by Michael W. Smith. I usually only listen to Michael W. at Christmastime (and if you haven’t seen his Christmas show live, you HAVE to go!!), but I love his version of Sinach’s song. Hers and Leeland’s are also good, but this one is my favorite because to me it sounds the most celebratory.

2. “Breakthrough” by Red Rocks Worship. I only discovered this song a few weeks ago, and already it has skyrocketed to my number two song of the year. I LOVE this song and can listen to it for hours on end. A great song to declare!

1. “Ain’t No Grave” by Bethel Music & Molly Skaggs. I have listened to this song and this album (Victory) SO many times this year. By far my favorite album of the year! Something about this song just spoke to me the first time I heard it, even though this isn’t the style of music I usually listen to. Maybe it’s because I’ve experienced chronic illness; maybe I just love that it’s an anthem for overcoming any situation. But Ricky Skaggs’ daughter is anointed, and I hope Bethel features her again on future albums!
